Cheaper necessarily isn't better! Below is a handy
evaluation tool to help you select the best contractor for your project:
Have a clear understanding of exactly what you want.
Don't just ask to see a license - always check with the
Secretary of State to ensure the license is in good standing.
A quality contractor typically will be licensed and/or
bonded for double the estimated cost of your project to protect you
against overruns.
Reputation and craftsmanship are the cornerstone to
getting your next project done right. The guy with the nicest
looking pickup may not have the proper skills associated with your
individual task.
Always get a written estimate AND contract BEFORE
work starts.
Be cautious of contractors demanding a heavy upfront
payment. A typical contractor may ask for a draw (partial payment)
when the work is over half way done if the project is lengthy or expensive
to help cover costs.
